Lesueur's Battery, 

3rd Missouri Artillery, CSA 


This unit was raised by Capt. James C. Gorham of St. Louis, Mo.using captured guns from the Battle of Lexington. It first served as a State Guard battery, then later transferred to Confederate service. On Nov. 10, 1862 Charles B. Tilden (of St. Louis) was put in command. Following the Battle of Helena, Capt. Tilden was replaced by another St. Louisan, Alexander A. Lesueur. The men of this battery were recruited from all over the State of Missouri, including St. Louis.
